Long Term Care

GCMH's Long Term Care Unit is a 55 bed Intermediate Care Facility connected to the hospital.  We place a high standard on preserving our residents' dignity and self respect while providing quality care to our residents.  In doing so, we promote our residents' emotional health as well as their physical well-being.

General services provided:

  • 24 hour nursing care
  • Access to all services and specialty clinics within the hospital
  • Direct access to the Emergency Department in the hospital
  • Onsite Lab and Radiology
  • Onsite Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy
  • Onsite Dialysis services (2010)
  • Specialized dietary services, complete with three meals a day plus snacks
  • Licensed Dietician
  • Housekeeping and laundry services
  • Activity programs daily
  • Diversified spiritual services and care
  • Rehabilitation program
  • Social Services
  • Mental Health services
  • Hospice services
  • Basic cable
  • Beautician and barber services
  • Alzheimer's / Dementia support group for families and the community

A Specialized Care Unit opened the first week in May 2010.  This Specialized Unit provides a secure, therapeutic environment to accommodate the needs of cognitively impaired residents.  This Unit offers all of the above services, in addition to:

  • Activities specific to individual needs and abilities of residents, promoting a sense of personal achievement and enhanced quality of life
  • Flexible scheduling with meals, sleeping hours, personal cares and treatments, promoting a sense of control and decision making
  • Increased opportunity for 1 on 1 interactions with staff trained in caring for residents with cognitive impairment
  • Low stimulation and noise reduction, providing a familiar and non-threatening atmosphere
  • Psychiatric assessment and treatment
  • An environment that enhances dignity, individuality, privacy and meaningful daily activities and relationships for residents with cognitive impairment

Our Healing Garden, social activities and individualized programming accommodate and stimulate residents at all levels of functioning.

Residents have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities.  Daily activities range from bingo to square dancing and craft projects to music appreciation.

Our Long Term Care Residents also enjoy getting e-mail.  E-mail is a quick way to send a greeting to a friend or loved one living in Long Term Care.  These messages are printed and shared with the resident every day Sun-Thurs.
